The most westerly stop

Tuesday was another warm sunny day on Vancouver Island. So for that mater was Monday but I took Monday off, no post, so the few photos taken on our trip from Saanich to Port Alberni may be found under Day 14. Vancouver island is a continuum of forests, mountains and lakes. The highway bypasses most of the small towns between Victoria and Port Albernie and the forests and hills offer only occasional glimpses of the ocean.

We expected the inevitable road work and signs warns of construction delays along the highway but nothing was experienced. As we passed Nanaimo we made note of the exit which will take us to Departure Bay on our return to Vancouver. To those of us who visit the island, the ferries are a nice experience but I am confident anyone living in the area who was required to commute, the ferries could seem like a real inconvenience.

Bryan and Elaine recommended we visit a few of the small towns on our way up island. We did go off route a few times. The best was in Ladysmith, for lunch. The enticement was for the cinnamon buns but upon arriving we discovered a full menu of bakery products. Lunch was sandwiches. The cinnamon roll was my desert and afternoon snack. Sorry, no photo, I didn’t want you to salivate too much. We shall see what we can see in the valley today for a post tomorrow.

Ah, cinnamon buns. Salivate, .salivate! Amy brought six back from her quick trip to Port Severn. They’re in the freezer. We will carefully consume them to make them last.

Enjoy the rest of the Island experience.

There is a memorial plaque to my late husband William Boles, in Nanaimo. The whole island is beautiful and all the names you mention, like Port Alberni and Saanich bring back many memories of our short post there.
Keep on enjoying and keep safe!

I well remember my first Cinnabon! Never had one like it since!
Glad you’re enjoying yourselves, oil change? You’ll need to trade it!
