Finally In Victoria

Now that we are on the west coast, we get to spend a few days that don’t begin early and end after a 500 km (or more) road trip. We are staying with one of my cousins for a few days whose home is located in a beautifully quiet waterfront community in North Saaniich. We arrived Thursday afternoon but spent the remainder of the afternoon and evening catching up so this is the first opportunity to write some of my thoughts.

A few days ago we were saddened to hear from the Rocky Mountaineer folks that we were going to be unable to visit Jasper on the tour. Thursday morning there was more mail from Rocky Mountaineer. When I posted first about the change of itinerary I said I was optimistic about returning to the original itinerary and that is precisely the news received by email. Jasper is back in play. Apparently, there was no fire damage to the town but the wildfires impacted the power company’s distribution system. This has been repaired earlier than expected, thankfully, and Jasper is one again encouraging visitors.

The Thursday trip from Kelowna to Tsawwassen was uneventful and we do have a few pictures to post. Once again there was considerable construction on the Coquihalla highway which sustained damage almost a year ago. It is remarkable how much has been restored and yet there is so much remaining. The trip from Highway #1 along Highway #17 was busy with a little more (wait for it) construction. I would really like to be the guy making the profits from the sale of orange construction markers. Even a commission on the sale of the orange paint.
