Tuesday was another warm sunny day on Vancouver Island. So for that mater was Monday but I took Monday off, no post, so the few photos taken on our trip from Saanich to Port Alberni may be found under Day 14. Vancouver island is a continuum of forests, mountains and lakes. The highway bypasses most of the small towns between Victoria and Port Albernie and the forests and hills offer only occasional glimpses of the ocean.

Sunday in the Park
We keep enjoying superb weather and Sunday was no exception. We paid visits to John Dean Park and to Mount Douglas, a 200 (or so) metre hill we used to cycle up as a 12 year old kid. We were then treated to a tour around Victoria shoreline. It was not perfectly clear but sufficient to see Mount Baker and the US coastline across the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

It’s official. I no longer know which travel day it is. I Staying in Victoria has been a lovely, relaxing experience. I will get a few pictures uploaded for days 10 and 11 but I think that still leaves me a day behind. I will catch up. On Friday we drove to Fisgard Lighthouse which is also a fort designed to protect the island a couple of wars ago. Saturday took a short trail walk and managed a few photos of the sea and surroundings. We also managed a visit to see John and Jose, cousins from my Grandfather’s family.

Now that we are on the west coast, we get to spend a few days that don’t begin early and end after a 500 km (or more) road trip. We are staying with one of my cousins for a few days whose home is located in a beautifully quiet waterfront community in North Saaniich. We arrived Thursday afternoon but spent the remainder of the afternoon and evening catching up so this is the first opportunity to write some of my thoughts.
